A quiet wake up call and plans to leave at 10am, saw all of us sitting in the sun with a coffee. Gloria was the star of the show, with other motel guests sitting and chatting with her as well. Sandy even shared some of her coffee with her, lol.
The parking at the motel lent itself to a good group photo so we blocked the driveway for a minute before heading off early at 9.30am. Bill and Brian from the Canterbury R.A.C Branch have now joined us for part of the P2P adventure.
The ride/drive to Ashburton was lovely and very scenic. There was a splattering of snow on the hills but it wasn't too chilly for the riders. Not many police cars have been seen, and today was no exception. But we were stuck behind so many slow drivers, it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
Then we had a stop in Ashburton as one of the bikes decided to have a wobbly wheel. Turns out Bill's swing ATM bearings had gone, so he did a quick U-turn for another bike and met us all at Dunedin. But... as we had stopped in Ashburton, the home of Ashford Yarn, Sandy was in knitters heaven for an hour, taking Gloria on a tour of the wool shop (and maybe having some purchases couriered back home!)
Gloria even managed to find a yellow signpost, but it is not the one on our destination...
Then heading off to Oamaru, and the sky is still a beautiful blue for everyone. The roads are pretty good, as long as you are not in the left track too much, and the support from our riders is outstanding as they look out for us in the support van! (that's cause the baking is in the van, lol - Sandy).
It feels like one big happy family.
Terama then took us down some alleyway in Oamaru, we really felt like we were going back in history somewhere. I think he needs to lead us astray more often. The Ruebens at the Craftworks cafe were phenomenal! And yes, we had some cheese rolls as well.
Dunedin should be dubbed the new windy city. By the time we arrived it was blowing a gale. So a communal home cooked meal of chicken, roast spud and veges was on the menu. Holiday park facilities for groups are just what was called for.
The first two nights accommodation really set the bar high, and we were lucky. This one really is as advertised. A holiday park that has seen many, many families come to stay. As long as we have a comfy pillow we will be fine.
Time to tuck Gloria into bed ready for another adventure tomorrow, where we get to the first milestone for this trip - the Bluff signpost.
Where's Gloria tonight?
