Gloria was up bright and early, as was everyone else this morning.
It was a damp dreary start to the day, so we started slow, with a petrol and coffee stop first. Not quite sure what was being discussed by Steve and the local police, but no tickets were handed out, but Steve did take the opportunity to give him one of our cards, lol. Although, the police car did come chasing up behind us lights and sirens. Luckily it wasn't for us, but rather a one car crash on the road up ahead.
The journey to Taupo was filled with roadworks. Add the rain, and it was a long ride/drive. So we stopped at Z Taupo for a refresher. The French Bakery next door was a fabulous find with giant meringues and creamy donuts. We also got to talking with some tourists who eagerly took the opportunity to have some photos with Gloria. They also added a few dollars to the donations. We have raised a few hundred without even asking for donations.
Then it was off to Cambridge, where we added detours to the roadworks. But by the time we reached Cambridge the riders were eagerly stripping off their wet weather gear.
On to a local park where, courtesy of 'Danny's Diner' we had sausages and bread for lunch, indulged in more of Wonder Jill's baking, and were treated to a bit of a car show with a heap of classic cars driving by after they had all attended a fundraiser.
Then it was back on the road to Tuakau via the motorway, where, you guessed it, more roadworks!
The Tuakau Hotel is a lovely surprise with comfortable rooms and good food. It didn't take long before we all headed off to bed though as everyone is starting to feel the 3,000+ km's that we have travelled over the last 10 days.
Tomorrow we make our way through Auckland for the last of our 5+ hour days. Then on to the last sign post before making our way back down to home.
What an adventure so far!
Where's Gloria tonight?
