Welcome to part 1of our Insight Series where we explore the inner workings of R.A.C. What we do, how we do it, why we do it and who does it!
In this part we are going to delve into the workings of the National Committee, the roles and what they entail. Nothing happens without an idea, a plan, a direction, or the people in place to make these things happen.
We are very fortunate that our National Committee is made up of dedicated, hardworking, and passionate people. A LOT of ground work goes on behind the scenes to make the vision of R.A.C move forward. Don't forget these people have lives outside of R.A.C (hard to believe I know) families, friends, and work commitments. On top of that they add to it with what it takes to be involved in running a Charity Organisation. Unselfish passion is what I call it - the passion in what we are doing, the passion to make a difference, and the passion to do everything we can to keep R.A.C running for years to come!
So, what are the driving force roles?
The National Committee is made up of 5 people. National President, National Vice-President, National Secretary, National Treasurer and National Media/Sponsorship
National President - The Overseer. They are the person that "knows everything R.A.C" - and if they don't, they'll point you in the right direction. The person you see about at events talking to people, keeping an eye on all that is happening, he has the final say, oh and loves delegating!! If all else fails - they are the one to go to. In the case of our current President, he is the Founder and person who created the vision of R.A.C.
National Vice-President - The Right-Hand Man. They are the person who works closely with the President. They oversee the other R.A.C branches and looks after Member Welfare. A person who wears many hats ( with our current VP - literally).
National Secretary - The Policy Maker, Recorder & Time Keeper. This person keeps us all in order, and on track! Along with the paper-work, procedures, and policies, they record the minutes, and makes sure all the boxes are ticked.
National Treasurer - The Bean Counter. This person is responsible & accountable for keeping track of the flow of money coming in & going out - and is a stickler for accuracy!! They also make sure the money is going to places that align with our vision, and have been known to say NO.
National Media/Sponsorship - The PR Person. Responsible for getting R.A.C's name out there, sharing news, generating interest, and getting sponsors (as well as looking after them) onboard. We couldn't do it without them!

The National Committee holds a meeting once a month, and this is where things like event planning, weekly ride planning, financial health (This is the bit I LOVE), promotion, member welfare, and the direction of R.A.C are talked about. It maybe that one of the committee (or a member) has had an idea about how we can raise more funds, where funds should go, or about an event we should support, so this is what is discussed. A lot of policies to safe guard R.A.C are implemented during these meetings, and updates on other branches are given.
Not all decisions can be made public, and the reasons behind them, but be rest assured they are made by unanimous vote and with the absolute best interests of R.A.C and it's members at heart.
Our AGM's are a perfect time to ask any questions or have something clarified, so don't be afraid to speak up. If you don't want to wait till then, we are approachable people! Please do not hesitate to reach out to one of us.
Stay tuned for part 2 of our Insight Series out next week, and as always Ride Safe
